Salfords Light Railway |
Rollingstock of the Salfords Light Railway
Open wagon #1

Built on a Ride
on Railways un-sprung chassis (right picture) as I do not intend to
use it to haul passengers. The sides hinge down, it is not just a tub on wheels.
My first piece of "anything" 5" gauge - I
got this before I had any track. This was my "taster" for 5",
the first vehicle that led to the rest of the railway.

Tipper wagons #10 - #13
I have always liked the typical "Hudson"
V-tipper wagons, and when Paul at Ride
on Railways said he was going to make some, I jumped at the chance. I
placed an order for 4 of them, and picked up the first 2 after a good
test-running at the Ickenham & District Model Engineering club's track on
January 1st 2003, and collected the remaining 2 (and 2 "loaners") from
Paul on 6th April 2003.
Here's
the first 2 of them behind my RoR Trojan. They make a wonderful rattly noise as
they run along - quite delightful.
There are 2 pages of illustrations of prototype wagons on this site
(including some V-tippers), built
by Arthur Koppel
and Friedrich Krupp.

Made
by PNP
Railways, as of June 2003 my only piece of non-Ride
on Railways rolling-stock.

Box van #?
Currently just a bare RoR sprung chassis, but
it will be a "Talyllyn-style" box van or brake van (perhaps something
like the right-hand image). Conveniently, some Talyllyn
vans had full-length running boards, which will be just right for my
driving-vehicle.

Bogie-coach #?
I asked Paul Middleton at Ride
on Railways if he could build me a panelled coach based around his
"standard" bogie coach. This is the result. Initially Paul didn't want to let on that he was
building the coach for me as it is a lot of work and he has "enough
on his plate" as it is. However, having seen how well it has come out
he's thinking of releasing it is a standard product later in the year. It
still needs its final coat of paint so for now, here's Paul's
"pre-delivery" photo for you.
It looks really good. Now all I have to do is invest a few hours
painting it. Picking out all of the panelling should be fun! NOT. |
