7¼" gauge in the garden

Photo galleries

London Model Engineering Exhibition, Wembley, Jan. 2003

Apart from the models on the club stands, there did not appear to be a lot on show - plenty of tools if that was what you went for. And worst of all? Not a Hunslet in sight! However, here are a few things that caught my eye:

On the stand of the Ickenham and District Society of Model Engineers was a rather splendid 5" De Winton vertical-boilered loco. Built around 1962 by Alan Tyler of the Harrow club, it is now owned by Matthew Byatt.

On the stand of the St Albans & District Model Engineering Society was a 5" Orenstein & Koppel rack loco. I knew of the Ken Swan design for this loco in 7¼", but had never seen a 5" gauge version

On the Chingford club stand, a 5" Heisler being built by (I believe) Roy Green

On the Romford Model Engineering Club stand a still to be completed 5" Shay by Terry Carter.

Now why didn't I position myself to avoid that damn sign!

Narrow-minded and proud of it
