March 2008Whilst visiting Melbourne on holiday I took the opportunity to visit a couple of miniature railways in the area. The Diamond Valley Railway is situated around Eltham Lower Park in the north-east suburbs of Melbourne. Open (almost) every Sunday from 11am-5pm this is a superb railway. I let the staff know that I was a member of the Hamilton Model Engineers Society and Murray and all the other staff made me feel very welcome - I even had a guided tour of the site. It was a shame that none of their steam locos were in the service the day I was there, but they had a couple of nice, chunky sugar-cane locos in the workshops. I can thoroughly recommend a visit to The Diamond Valley Railway.
The 20-lever frame is being replaced by a 40-lever frame!
Not sure about the colour, but the loco is nice.
